This is sad. There's no other word for it. Even as someone who is campaigning for her opponent, I can't help but feel sorry for Hillary when I watch this. She's trying to tell an April Fool's joke, but, as far as I am concerned, it completely falls flat.
I think she deserves props for trying, but it's so obviously scripted that it ruins the spontaneity required for a joke. She starts out well, and seems to be enjoying it. But by the end, the element of surprise is completely gone, and she's clearly referencing herself! When you're telling a joke, you don't use a blatantly obvious reference to your own campaign ads! Not unless you're trying to make fun of yourself, which she is not doing. That's the problem - she's trying to tell a joke, but it's not clear what she thinks is funny. Because she obviously doesn't think her own campaign should be the subject of this joke, and she can't make him the subject of it. But she's trying to somehow turn this to her advantage.
For me, it was just painful by the end. I felt like being at a cocktail party when someone tells a joke, and everyone else realizes that it's not funny, but they keep on smiling, and the person telling the joke doesn't realize that it's not funny, but they keep on plugging away. I think this just adds to the "unlikeability" factor. I feel bad because I would still like to respect her as a former First Lady and Senator and the first serious woman candidate for president, and this just doesn't work.
