It's now legal for same-sex couples to get married in Vermont. I'm linking to Andrew Sullivan, since he has been blogger #1 on this topic. Vermont is the first state to legalize gay marriage as a result of a vote of the legislature, rather than through a court decision. Props to those Vermonters! Ben and Jerry's all around!
The legislature overrode the Republican governor's veto. Two odd things there: first of all, the governor of Vermont is a Republican? Second, it's great that the legislature had enough votes to override him.
